Quem é o artista Henri Rousseau ?
Henri Rousseau, 1844-1910, foi um pintor autodidata que se tornou amigo de Picasso e uma inspiração para a vanguarda parisiense. Ele aprendeu sozinho a pintar copiando pinturas nos museus de arte de Paris e desenhando nos jardins botânicos e museus de história natural da cidade.
Ele nunca lucrou com suas pinturas; no entanto, obras como "O Sonho", "O Cigano Adormecido" e "Noite de Carnaval" influenciaram muitos artistas que vieram depois dele, desde seu amigo Picasso até Fernand Léger, Max Ernst e os Surrealistas.
Rousseau desenvolveu um estilo altamente pessoal. Seus retratos e paisagens muitas vezes tinham um caráter infantil ou "ingênuo", pois não havia aprendido anatomia ou perspectiva; suas cores vivas, espaços ambíguos, escala não realista e intensidade dramática conferiam-lhes uma qualidade onírica.
